Ans.Nick’s father did his best to make him independent. He put Nick in water when he was just 18 months old. He taught him typing with his small foot on his hip. He encouraged Nick to get into football and skating. He joined Nick in a mainstream school.

2.What does Stanley Houghton satirise in his one act play ?
Ans.Stanley Houghton satirises the degradation of moral values in the modern middle class society. It throws light on the increasing trend in the society of leaving elderly generation abandoned and neglected.

3.Why did the author think that he was physically useless ?
Ans.The author had never got used to physical labour having stayed in hostels right from his childhood. He thought that his education had made him shun physical labour.

4.What is the theme of ‘Rendezvous with Ray’?
Ans.The theme of ‘Rendezvous with Ray’ is to picturize the illustrious life of Ray and to explain the experiences of Roberge with Ray.

5.What made ‘Maya Bazaar’ a landmark film?
Ans.Maya Bazaar became a landmark movie because of the sterling performances of great film stars. Apart from that the director K V Reddy had full control over every frame of the film. It is a blend of supreme artistical talent and technical brilliance of the unit.

6.Comment on Bayaji’s last wish: ‘Sons, I want you to build a storeyed house.’
Ans.Bayaji’s last words are like a mantra suggestive of the rise of Dalit empowerment. Digging the foundation of a regular storeyed-house symbolises the Dalit digging into the foundation of the villain of the tragedy, the caste system.

7.What was Kalam’s opinion on the society of Rameswaram?
Ans.According to Kalam, the small society of Rameswaram was very rigid in terms of the segregation of different social groups. The people had a strong feeling of unity, brotherhood and nationalism. The society encouraged communal harmony.

8.Why did the white man feel surprised at the narrator’s outburst? Eventually, he also smiled. Why?
Ans.The narrator, without any greetings and self-introduction and without enquiring about his awareness of the game, made his outburst and imposed all his feelings of the game on the white man. It made the white man surprised. The narrator’s imputation of deep motives to children’s actions and his over ambitious desire of his creed’s growth to rule the world must have made the white man smile at the narrator.

9.Comment on the line “The only sin of the infant-Being Born”.
Ans.This goes out to the little babies……………. innocent, tiny, tender souls who have been abandoned by their families or their parents. There are so many babies found abandoned in trash cans and garbage bins on the streets in India for no fault of theirs. Few are saved but most die a painful death crying into the cold night. Doomed to death even before they could learn to live. The poet questions us whether it was their sin to be born into this world an infants.

10.What is the tone of the poem “Once upon a Time” ?
Ans.This is a sombre and emotional poem with a strong moral message.
