Subject : Increasing traffic – a menace Respected sir/madam,
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I wish to draw the attention of the concerned authorities towards the increasing traffic and congestion.
It is no longer possible to travel without facing traffic jams. At times, ambulances carrying critical patients get stuck, resulting in deaths.
Increased traffic has led to more accidents and pollution, which is the worst in metro cities. There are many ways by which we can help ease this. The main factor is the increasing number of vehicles. Families now a days have atleast two cars. Thus, we should raise awareness on the benefits of carpooling or ban small families from having more than one car. School-going children must use only school transport.
It is important that these steps are taken to make our roads safe and smooth. I hope the concerned authorities and the public adopt these measures.
Yours sincerely

Answer:
Poverty Declines but No Change for the Poor
In a survey conducted by the World Bank, it has been found that in India, poverty has been on the decline since 1993. While a significant percentage of its population seems out of poverty, the reality is different.

There has been a steady decline in the percentage of people living below the value set by the World Bank. In 1993, nearly 250 million from 450 million people lived in abject poverty. There was, however, improvement by 2004 when it dropped below 200 million. From almost 50% in 1994, it went below 40%. It then declined to less than 30% in 2009 and in 2011, it was below 20%.

However, the poor have seen little change. Children are forced to work for one square meal. This drop in poverty rate will only make sense if the condition of the poor improves. Otherwise, it is just data, not reality.
OR
Student Health and Weight Problems
A recent study has raised red flags on the growing cases of obesity in children and its effects on their health. Students of a leading public school were a part of the study and the findings are based on the obesity criteria set by IAP and CDC.

The data makes it clear that the health of children needs serious attention as almost 15% of them were found obese under CDC and 24% under IAP. With 26% of them overweight under CDC and an alarming 36% under IAP, it is time to ensure that they follow a strict regime for weight control.

However, there was good news too, with 56% students under CDC and 39% under IAP with a normal weight. Another cause for concern was must ensure a healthy Lifestyle for children and for students who were underweight. Parents schools must promote physical exercises.

When the train had gone, I found myself standing alone on the deserted platform. I had no idea where to spend the night. I had no friends, believing that friends were more trouble than help. And I did not want to make anyone curious by staying at one of the small hotels near the station. The only person I knew really well was the man I had robbed. Leaving the station, I walked slowly through the bazaar.

In my short career as a thief, I had made a study of men’s faces when they had lost their goods. The greedy man showed fear; the rich man showed anger; the poor man showed acceptance. But I knew that Anil’s face, when he discovered the theft, would show only a touch of sadness. Not for the loss of money, but for the loss of trust. I found myself in the maidan and sat down on a bench. The night was chilly – it was early November – and a light drizzle added to my discomfort. Soon it was raining quite heavily. My shirt and pyjamas stuck to my skin, and a cold wind blew the rain across my face.
