WBJEE

WBJEE: West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam is a state-level entrance exam conducted by West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam Board. The candidates qualifying the exam can seek admission in engineering and pharmacy courses in Universities, government colleges and other institutes of West Bengal.

The exam is conducted in the offline mode, once in a year, in the month of February. The application forms are released in the month of October. Read on to explore details about WBJEE, its eligibility criteria, exam pattern, and other details.

WBJEE Registration

The online registration for WBJEE begins in the month of October. The candidates can fill the application form, upload photographs, make payment and submit the form. Any mistakes in the application form can be corrected when the application correction window opens. But the corrections can be made only to the following areas:

  • Tuition fee waiver status
  • Religion
  • Nationality
  • Income category
  • Adhaar card
  •  Home district
  • PWD Category

WBJEE Eligibility Criteria

The candidates aspiring to appear for WBJEE should fulfil the following eligibility criteria:

  1. The candidates should have a domicile of West Bengal and can apply in the reserved category in order to apply for government institutes.
  2. Only Indian citizens are allowed to appear for the exam.
  3. The candidate should be atleast 17 years old as on 31st December of the appearing year. The students appearing for marine engineering exam should be not more than 25 years old.The candidates applying for engineering courses should have passed 12th with Physics and Chemistry alongwith Biotechnology/Biology/Computer Application/Technical Vocational as mandatory subjects.
  4. The pharmacy students should have passed 12th with Physics/Chemistry/Maths or Biology as the core subjects, with an aggregate of 45% marks.
  5. The minimum qualifying marks for the reserved categories is 40%.
  6. Candidates with full time, regular courses are only eligible for the exam.

WBJEE Exam Pattern

WBJEE is carried out in offline mode. The questions are to be answered on the OMR sheet. The exam comprises two papers – Paper I is Maths and paper II is Physics and Chemistry. Candidates appearing in both the papers are eligible to apply for Engineering, Pharmacy, Architecture, and Technology programs. The candidates appearing only for paper II can apply only for pharmacy.

The candidates are supposed to circle the correct option with a blue or black ballpoint pen. Any other kind of marking will not be considered. The candidates cannot change the marked response.

There are three types of questions in WBJEE for Physics, Maths, and Chemistry. For type I, 1 mark is awarded for every correct answer, and 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong answer. For type II, 2 marks are awarded for every correct answer, and 0.50 marks are deducted for every wrong answer. For the third type of questions, 2 marks are awarded for the correct answer.

WBJEE Result

WBJEE results are announced in the month of April. The result is published on the official website of WEBJEE. The candidates can use their application number and password to login to the account. The result card contains the candidate’s name, the rank of the candidate, aggregate score, score in each paper and the qualifying status.

The rank card is issued to all the candidates but rank is awarded only to the qualifying candidates. The rank card should be kept carefully as it is required at the time of counselling.

WBJEE Merit List

Two separate merit lists are prepared for the WBJEE:

  • General Merit List
  • Pharmacy Merit List

General Merit List

The general merit list is prepared on evaluating paper-I and paper-II. The candidates can get admission in Jadavpur University into architecture, engineering, technology, and pharmacy courses on the basis of general merit list.

Pharmacy Merit List

  • The pharmacy merit list is prepared by evaluating paper-II.
  • The candidates qualifying the exam can seek admissions to all the pharmacy courses except Jadavpur University.
  • A separate merit list is prepared for the reserved categories.
  • The counselling and seat allotment is done only on the basis of general merit list and pharmacy merit list.

WBJEE Cut Off

The cut off depends upon the type of question paper and the availability of the highest marks in the exam. There is a separate cut off released for every course.

WBJEE Counselling

WBJEE counselling is conducted online. The candidates are required to pay an additional counselling fee. The WBJEE board provides the seat allotment details and the candidates are supposed to select the course and college of their choice from the list available.

There are three rounds of counselling and seat allotment. The candidates applying on the basis of WBJEE and JEE mains have to attend a separate counselling.

After seat allotment, the candidates are required to visit the reporting centre for the verification of documents. The seats are allotment on the basis of merit list and the preferences provided by the candidates.

WBJEE Reservation of Seats

  • The WBJEE seats are reserved on the basis of the category of the candidate.
  • Candidates from SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PwD are eligible for reserved seats.
  • The candidates with domicile of West Bengal also have seats reserved in WBJEE.
  • 40 to 70% seats are reserved for the PwD candidates in the following categories – Visual impairment, hearing impairment, locomotory disability, speech and language disability.
  • 13 seats are reserved for ‘wards of defence personnel’

Tips and Tricks to Prepare for WBJEE

  1. The candidates need to manage their time and schedule their studies.
  2. The students should study for atleast 10-12 hours daily with a break of 15 minutes after every 3 hours.
  3. The questions are usually repeated every year. Therefore, the candidates should practice the previous five years question papers.
  4. The candidates can also join a good coaching institute for proper guidance about the examination pattern and the type of questions asked.
  5. All the concepts should be clear. The candidates should not leave the topic in case it is not clear. The questions can be asked from anywhere.
  6. The students can jot down the important concepts in points so that revision becomes easier during the exams.
  7. The students can study from the NCERT textbooks to strengthen the basic concepts. WBJEE reference books are also provided for preparation.
  8. The students can also solve the online mock tests in order to ensure time management in the exam and improve confidence.
