This story is about a donkey named Goopu. Goopu loves music and wants to become a musician. When he became old and couldnt able to carry the load, he decided to go to Mumbai to become musician. On the way, he met a dog, a cat and a cock. They all joined him. They all wanted to become musicians. On their way to Mumbai, they all became tired and hungry. They saw a house. They all started singing to tell the people in the house that they are singers. People got scared of their voices and ran away. Finally, they all ate the food calmly.

1. “Once upon a time, there lived a donkey
named Goopu”. He had worked for many
years in the house of a farmer. He had
carried many heavy sacks of corn and
sugarcane, from the farm to the factory.
He was now very tired and old.

एक समय की बात है। गूपू नामक एक गधा था।
उसने एक किसान के घर कई वर्षों तक काम किया
था। वह अनाज के कई भारी-भारी बोरे तथा गन्ने
के खेत से कारखाने ले जा चुका था। वह अब बहुत
थका हुआ और बूढा हो चुका था।

Word-Meanings : Donkey (डंकी) -a kind of animal, गधा। Farmer (फ़ार्मर) -one who works in the field, किसान। Sacks (सैक्स) -large bags, बोरे। Corn (कॉर्न) -grains, अनाज। Sugarcane (सुगरकेन) -a stem from which sugar is produced, गन्ना। Factory (फैक्टर) -a place where goods are manufactured, कारखाना।

2. The farmer said to Goopu, “You are a
good donkey. Take this sack of corn and
go and see the world, before you become too old.”

किसान ने गूपू से कहा, “तुम एक अच्छे गधे हो। यह
अनाज की बोरी लो और इससे पहले कि तुम और
बूढ़े हो जाओ, दुनिया देखकर आओ।”

3. Goopu smiled and said goodbye. He
went off towards the city of Mumbai.
“I am good at music. I will go to Mumbai
and be a musician there.”

गूपू मुस्कराया तथा ‘गुडबाइ’ बोलकर मुंबई शहर की
“तरफ निकल पड़ा। “मैं संगीत में अच्छा हूँ। मैं मुंबई
जाऊँगा तथा संगीतकार बन जाऊँगा।”

4. On the way he met a dog.
Where are you going, asked Doopu.
I am going to Mumbai to be a musician,
Would you like to come too? asked
Goopu.
“Yes, I would,” replied Doopu.

रास्ते में उसे एककुत्ता मिला। “तुम कहाँ जा रहे
हो?” डूपू ने पूछा।
“मैं संगीतकार बनने मुंबई जा रहा हूँ। क्या तुम भी
आना चाहोगे?” ड्रपू ने पूछा। “हाँ, मैं चलूंगा।” गूपू
ने जवाब दिया।

5. Off went the two friends on the dusty
road to Mumbai.
They saw a ball of fur in the middle of
the road.
“Who are you?” they asked.
“I am Furry, the cat,” said the cat.

दोनों दोस्त मुंबई जा रही धूल-भरी सड़क पर निकल
पड़े।
उन्होंने बीच सड़क के बीच में रोवें की एक बॉल
देखी। “तुम कौन हो?” उन्होंने पूछा। “मैं फरी नाम
की बिल्ली हूँ।” बिल्ली ने कहा।

6. “Would you like to come with us to
become a musician?” asked Goopu and
Doopu together.

people inside thought that ghosts had
come to scare them. They an away as
fast as they could!
Goopu, Doopu and Furry went into the
house and ate the food, till they could
eat no more.

Summary In English
This story is about a poor girl, Tara and her mother. One day one old woman gave Tara a magic pot in a forest. The old woman told her that “the pot will cook porridge when you say ‘Cook-Pot-Cook’and stop making them when you say ‘Stop-Pot-Stop’.” Tara take that pot to her home. One day Tara was not at home. Her mother was hungry. She said ‘Cook-Pot-Cook’and porridge started coming out of the pot.

But the mother did not know how to stop the pot. She became scared as her home was filled with porridge all around. Soon there was porridge everywhere. The whole village was filled with porridge. Suddenly, Tara came back she saw porridge everywhere on the roads. She ran quickly towards her home and said ‘Stop-Pot-Stop’. The pot stopped cooking porridge quickly.

1. Once, there was a little girl named

2. The old woman gave her a pot. She
said, “This is a magic pot. It will cook

बूढ़ी औरत ने उसे एक बरतन दिया। उसने कहा,
“यह एक जादुई बरतन है। जब तुम ‘पकाओ

3. Tara was very happy. She ran to her
mother and said, “Mother, we will no
longer be hungry as I have got a magic pot.”

तारा बहुत खुश थी। वह अपनी माँ के पास
दौड़कर गई तथा बोली-“माँ, अब हम भूखे नहीं
रहेंगे क्योंकि मुझे एक जादुई बरतन मिला है।”

4. Tara said to the pot, “Cook-Pot-Cook” and
the pot cooked porridge. Her mother was
very happy and they both ate porridge.

तारा ने बरतन से कहा-“पकाओ बरतन, पकाओ।”
और बरतन ने दलिया पकाना प्रारंभ कर दिया।
उसकी माँ बहुत खुश थी। सब ने मिलकर दलिया खाया।

Word-Meanings : Happy (हैपी) -in a jolly mood, खुश। Ate (ऐट) -took swallowed, खा लिया।

5. One day, when Tara had gone out, her
mother felt hungry. She said to the pot,
“Cook-Pot-Cook.” The pot started cooking
porridge.

एक दिन जब तारा बाहर चली गई तो उसकी माँ
को भूख लगी। उसने बरतन से कहा- “पकाओ
बरतन, पकाओ।” बरतन ने दलिया पकाना शुरू
कर दिया।

6. After eating it her mother said, “Do not
cook Pot”. But the pot went on cooking.
Soon the porridge started spilling on the
floor, Mother called out again, “Wait – do
not cook anymore.” But the pot did not
stop.

दलिया खाने के बाद, माँ ने कहा-“मत पकाओ
बरतन।” किंतु बरतन पकाता गया। थोड़ी देर में
दलिया फ़र्श पर फैलना शुरू कर दिया। माँ ने
फिर कहा-“रुको, अब मत पकाओ।” किंतु
बरतन नहीं रुका।

7. Mother ran out of the house and the
porridge followed her. Soon there was
porridge everywhere. The whole village
saw it. They ran to eat the porridge.

पीछे-पीछे बहने लगा। तुरंत चारों ओर दलिया भर
गया। सारे गाँव ने इस घटना को देखा। दलिया

8. When Tara came back, she saw that the
road was full of porridge. She ran back as
fast as she could. She heard her mother

Summary In English
This story is about a lazy grasshopper. The grasshopper was so lazy and spent his whole time idle. That was a summer season and hardworking ants were working day and night to store the ‘food for the winter. The grasshopper often laughs on them. Summer ended and cruel winters arrived. It started snowing. There was nothing to eat.

The snow was everywhere. Grasshopper suddenly remembered that he saw its neighbour ants storing food for the winters. At last he visited them. The ants shouted on him and called him lazy. Finally grasshopper learnt the value of the hard work.

यह एक आलसी टिड्डे की कहानी है। टिड्डा बेहद आलसी था तथा अपना अधिकांश समय व्यर्थ में ही बिताता था। गरमियों के दिन थे। चीटियाँ अपनी कठिन मेहनत के द्वारा रात-दिन एक करके सर्दियों के लिए खाना इकट्ठा करने में लगी थीं। टिड्डा अक्सर उन पर हँसता था। गरमियों के दिन समाप्त हो गए तथा सरदियों के निष्ठुर दिन आ गए। बर्फबारी होने लगी। खाने को कुछ भी नहीं था। चारों तरफ़ बर्फ ही बर्फ़ थी। तभी टिड्डे को याद आया कि उसने अपनी पड़ोसी चीटियों को सरदियों के लिए खाना इकट्ठा करते देखा था। अंत में वह उनके पास गया। चीटियाँ उस पर चिल्लाई तथा उसे आलसी कहने लगीं। अंततः टिड्डे को कठिन मेहनत का मूल्य समझ में आ गया।

Hindi Translation Of The Story
1. Once there lived a lazy grasshopper.
He didn’t like to work. All day long he
sang songs and played in the warm
sunshine.

एक समय एक आलसी टिड्डा था। वह काम करना
पसंद नहीं करता था। वह पूरे दिन गरम धूप में गाने
गाता तथा खेलता था।

Word-Meanings : Lazy (लेज़ी) -the person who is not active, आलसी। Grasshopper (ग्रेसहॉपर) -a small green insect, टिड्डा। Warm (वॉम) -hot, गरम। Sunshine (सनशाइन) -the light of the sun, सूर्य का प्रकाश।

2. “Hee, Hee! Look at me! I’m as happy
as can be!” The grasshopper laughed at

winter ahead, they replied. The lazy
grasshopper only laughed louder,

arrived. The wind blew strong and it
started snowing.

कर रही हैं। वे बोलीं आलसी टिड्डा केवल जोर से

कविता का सारांश
प्रस्तुत कविता ‘ऊँट चला’ प्रयाग शुक्ल द्वारा रचित है। इस कविता में कवि ने एक ऊँट के क्रियाकलापों का वर्णन किया है। कवि कहता है कि ऊँचा ऊँट हिलता-डुलता चला जा रहा है। ऊँची गर्दन तथा ऊँची पीठ उठाए ऊँट चल रहा है। ऊँट बोझ लेकर बालू में भी चल सकता है। कवि कहता है कि जब ऊँट थककर बैठेगा तो यह किस करवट बैठेगा, किसी को नहीं मालूम।

काव्यांशों की व्याख्या

हिलता डुलता ऊँट चला।

  • प्रसंग – प्रस्तुत पंक्तियाँ हमारी पाठ्यपुस्तक रिमझिम, भाग-2 में संकलित कविता ‘ऊँट चला’ से ली गई हैं। इस कविता के कवि प्रयाग शुक्ल ने एक ऊँट के क्रियाकलापों का वर्णन किया है।
  • व्याख्या – उपर्युक्त पंक्तियों में कवि कहता है कि हिलता-डुलता ऊँट चला जा रहा है। ऊँट का कद काफी ऊँचा है। वह ऊँची गर्दन तथा ऊँची पीठ किए चला जा रहा है।

  • शब्दार्थ : बालू-रेत। करवट-हाथ या पीठ के बल लेटने की स्थिति।
    प्रसंग-पूर्ववत।
  • व्याख्या – प्रस्तुत पंक्तियों में कवि कहता है कि बालू में ऊँट नहीं फँसेगा। वह इसमें भी बोझ ढो सकता है। जब ऊँट थककर बैठेगा तो वह किस करवट बैठेगा, कोई नहीं बता सकता। कवि पुनः कहता है कि ऊँट चलता जा रहा है, चलता ही जा रहा है।
